Sacha Fenestraz joins Jaguar Racing as reserve driver

Sacha Fenestraz joins Jaguar Racing as the squad’s reserve driver.

The 21-year-old got his first taste of Formula E during the Marrakesh rookie test at the start of 2020. Running with Jaguar Racing for the test, he finished 10th overall during the test with a time quicker than Jaguar’s regular drivers managed during qualifying the previous day.

Fenestraz has spent the past two years racing in Japan. In 2019, he took the Japanese Formula 3 title, then moved up to a join Super GT and Super Formula campaign in 2020. He will continue in both series for 2021 alongside his reserve driver duties at Jaguar.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Jaguar Racing in Marrakesh last year,” said Fenestraz. “To now be the reserve driver for this iconic brand and alongside one of the strongest line-ups in the world championship is a big moment for me.

“Formula E offers a challenge very different to anything I have raced in before and I can’t wait to support the team and return to the electric racing paddock.”

Fenestraz will be on hand this weekend in case illness or an accident means Sam Bird or Mitch Evans, Jaguar’s regular drivers, are unable to compete.

“It is great to have Sacha joining us as a reserve driver,” added team director James Barclay. “He is a young, talented driver who has a great character and is really enthusiastic about this opportunity. He will be an important addition to the team.

“We were impressed with his approach and performance in the one day rookie test in 2020. We are pleased to have him join the team.”
