Formula E announces its most extensive calendar to date for Season 8

The provisional calendar for the eighth season of Formula E was announced today at the FIA World Motor Sport Council held in Monaco.

A total of 16 races form what is likely to be the series’ most extensive calendar to date.

The season will run from January to August, in a total of 12 venues across four continents. The opening round will be a double header in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, on January 28th and 29th.

Mexico City will be the fully-electric championship’s next destination, as the series returns to the Circuito Hermanos Rodriguez in February 2nd.

The third event will be held in Cape Town, South Africa. This will be Formula E’s first time visiting the country, and the race is set to take place two weeks after the Mexico round, on February 26th. It will also be the first time an FIA single seater World Championship has raced in the country since the country fell off the F1 calendar in 1993.

China makes a comeback into the series, hosting the fifth round in a location that is set to be announced soon.

The continental European leg of the championship kicks off in Rome, Italy, on April 9th. Up next comes the Monaco E-Prix on April 30th, which now becomes an annual event in the Formula E calendars.

Berlin will host the penultimate round of the European races, on May 14th. There is another round to be confirmed which closes this leg of the championship set to be held on June 4th.

Absent from the calendar is Paris, which will now become a bi-annual event.

Formula E will cross the pond for the Vancouver E-Prix, another new venue that joins the calendar. The race on Canadian soil will be held on July 2nd. A New York double-header is set for July 16th and 17th.

July will be a busy month for the series, as there is a double-header set in London for the 30th and 31st.

The season finale will be a double-header held in Seoul, on August 13th and 14th. The South Korean capital was set to host a Formula E race last year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was called off. Now the series will make its debut in the Asian metropolis to close off what looks to be a promising season.

Alberto Longo, co-founder of Formula E, said that “In Formula E’s short history, we have always looked to grow the championship and our reach. Next season is set to be another landmark for the series with a record number of races and incredible new cities backing Formula E and our electric movement”.
