Guenther takes first win of the season in New York

Maximilian Guenther claims his first Formula E victory of the season on the streets of New York City.

The BMW driver made an impressive move past the battling Jean-Eric Vergne and Nick Cassidy late in the race to sweep through and take the lead.

Vergne was unable to stick with Guenther and finished some two second back.

Pole sitter Cassidy led for much of the race, with Vergne close behind and Sebastien Buemi running third.

Buemi didn’t quite have the pace to stick with the race leaders and Guenther came through to take third shortly before a Full Course Yellow was brought out to clear the stranded Mitch Evans.

Cassidy had to focus on energy management late on the race, allowing Vergne, Guenther, and Lucas Di Grassi to close onto the back of the Virgin driver. He put up a good defense and managed to hold them off for a number of laps before a misjudged move from Vergne caused the two of them to make contact.

Vergne was ahead for moments but the contact had put both he and Cassidy off line, allowing Guenther to sweep through to take the lead.

Vergne held onto second, but Di Grassi was able to come through and knock Cassidy off the podium.

Cassidy held off team-mate Robin Frijns to finish fourth, as Frijns moved to level on points with championship leader Edoardo Mortara.

Buemi dropped back to sixth, ahead of Oliver Rowland and Andre Lotterer.

Sam Bird climbed up to take P9 while Rene Rast completed the top 10.
