Jaguar confirms pledge to Formula E’s Gen3 era

Jaguar Racing joins the likes of Mahindra and Nissan in committing to Formula E’s Gen3 era.

The manufacturer, which joined Formula E in Season 3 with Mitch Evans and Adam Carroll, will continue to apply Formula E technology to its road cars.

Jaguar Land Rover aims to have zero tailpipe emissions by 2036, and earn a net-zero status across the company by 2039.

“The Gen3 era of Formula E is an exciting new chapter for the all-electric World Championship,” said Thierry Bollore, Jaguar Land Rover CEO.

“It is already proving to be the perfect environment to design, collaborate, test and develop new sustainable technologies at pace.

“Jaguar Racing will not only play a role in the renaissance of Jaguar as a pure-electric luxury brand, but across the entire electrified Jaguar Land Rover ecosystem, helping to deliver our sustainable future and our digital transformation.”

The third generation of Formula E cars will begin racing with the 2022-23 season.

Mahindra, DS, Nissan, and Porsche have already committed to racing in the championship in Gen 3, while McLaren also has an option to be on the grid from Season 9 onwards.

The series did suffer a blow, however, when Audi and BMW confirmed they would be leaving the championship, in part due to the lack of transferability of technology.

“Gen3 brings with it an unparalleled opportunity for a premium manufacturer like Jaguar to showcase innovation from a sporting perspective on the track, technological advancement on our roads and reach a global audience with spectacular city centre racing from around the world,” said Formula E CEO Jamie Reigle.

“We’re thrilled to have Jaguar Racing joining us on that journey.”

Jaguar is currently set for its best season in Formula E to date. The team lies third in the championship with two double-headers remaining, while driver Sam Bird leads the drivers’ championship.
