McLaren sign X Games medallist Tanner Foust

US Rallycross champion and X Games gold medalest Tanner Foust will race with McLaren when the team joins Extreme E in 2022.

McLaren revealed in July that they would compete in the second season of the electric off-roading championship, becoming the first new team to join the series.

Foust is the first of two drivers that will be confirmed at McLaren. His team-mate will be McLaren’s first ever female driver.

“We are thrilled that Tanner has joined the McLaren Racing family of drivers,” said McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown. “He is a top-class off-road competitor with a wealth of experience and a winning record.

“Alongside his driving prowess he’s a fantastic personality, who will help us connect with new fans around the world and bring the purpose and important messages of Extreme E to the fore.”

Foust has achieved numerous rallycross accolades over the year, including Global Rally Cross titles and four X Games gold medals.

He also has an extensive career as a stunt driver, performing in everything from the Dukes of Hazzard to Ford vs Ferrari.

However, this will be his first time competing in an electric championship.

“To be able to race for McLaren is every driver’s dream and the opportunity to compete for the team in this innovative and imaginative racing series makes it even more special,” he said.

“The concept is unique and the challenge compelling. It will enable me to draw on all my experience and skills, while being part of a positive cause addressing key issues for our planet and society.”
