Dragon Confirm Giovinazzi: Retain Sette Camara

Antonio Giovinnazi will make the switch from F1 to Formula E for 2022, driving for Dragon/Penske Autosport alongside Sergio Sette Camara.

The Italian driver made his F1 debut in 2017, replacing Pascal Wehrlein at Sauber with the German injured, before a full-time switch at the Sauber squad for 2019. He remained there for three years but will leave F1 at the end of the 2021 campaign.

His future has not been unknown for too long as the Italian, who also spent time in WEC and as Ferrari’s simulator driver, has been snapped up by the Dragon/Penske Autosport team for Season 8 of Formula E.

Explain his move to FE, Giovinnazi said: “As soon as it was made public that I would not be in Formula One next year, I have decided to participate in the Formula E world championship.

“It is a category which I always followed, I am thrilled to be part of Dragon / Penske Autosport in this all-electric racing series which I have already tested three years ago.

“I would like to thank Jay Penske who immediately showed great interest for having me on board.

“I can’t wait until I will test my new electric single-seater in Valencia at the end of the month.

“We have an exciting year ahead of us, I will do the maximum to help the team succeed!”

The Italian will compete alongside Brazilian driver Sette Camara, who remains with the team after showing flashes of brilliance in Season 7, particularly in qualifying.

Camara said: “I am very happy and proud to continue with Dragon / Penske Autosport in Season 8.

“Formula E is one of the most competitive championships in the world and I will give my absolute best in every single race to obtain the results the Team deserves. I am determined to come back strong!”

Team Principal Jay Penske added: “Antonio is among the most talented drivers in the world, and I am very proud to have him joining the team.

“I am very pleased to continue our journey with Sergio. He already demonstrated his great racecraft, I expect him to deliver consistent solid results.

“Sergio is a fierce competitor and I look forward to seeing him to raise the bar together this upcoming season.

“With Antonio and Sergio, we are fortunate to now have what I believe to be one of the strongest race line up in the series.”

Testing for Season 8 of Formula E gets underway at the end of November at the now-familiar Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia.
