Just Electric

Ticktum joins Turvey at NIO 333 for Season 8

Formula 2 race winner Dan Ticktum joins NIO 333 for the 2021-22 Formula E season.

NIO will once again field an all-British line-up for Season 8 as Oliver Turvey continues at the team he made his FE debut within the championship’s inaugural season.

Ticktum will make the switch to electric racing after two seasons in F2. He made his debut with Dams last year, taking a victory in the Silverstone sprint race and ending the season 11th in the championship standings.

For his second season in the series, Ticktum switched to Carlin. He has so far picked up two wins and lies fourth overall in the championship standings.

The 22-year-old also comes to FE with a wealth of street racing success, which he will hope to replicate next year.

“I am very happy to be racing with the NIO 333 Formula E team,” he said. “It’s going to be quite a big challenge as I have not had long to prepare for the test next week, and Formula E is complicated but it’s all very exciting.

“There are quite a few different tools you can use as a driver but it’s a totally different experience to Formula 2, so I’m really looking forward to it, both mentally and physically.

“I’ve had a great few days with the team at Silverstone this week and hopefully we can try to make some progress next season and get further up the grid.”

Ticktum will be following a path that is becoming more and more established in recent years, jumping directly from F2 to FE. Fellow Season 8 driver Maximilian Guenther made the jump at the end of 2018, while Season 7 champion Nyck de Vries moved to FE directly after winning his F2 title in 2019.

Ticktum is joined by the experienced Oliver Turvey for Season 8 in what will be Turvey’s seventh full season with the team.

“I am delighted to be continuing with NIO 333 in Formula E and to continue our journey together having been with the team since the first season,” he said. “It’s fantastic to have the whole team together at the new facility in Silverstone. Everyone has worked extremely hard, from management taking steps to move the team forwards, the engineers on development testing, and the mechanics with the preparation of the cars. Although the standard in Formula E is very high, I feel we can take some positive steps forwards and I can’t wait to get out on track in the official test next week in Valencia.”

Ticktum’s F2 commitments mean he will miss the final day of pre-season testing at Valencia, and team development and reserve driver Adam Carroll will return to the driver’s seat on Thursday 2nd December to fill in.
