Berthon tops mixed qualifying at Isola

Nathanael Berthon takes pole for the first of three Andros eTrophy races this weekend at Isola 2000.

Isola will host three races this weekend following the cancellation of the Serre Chevalier weekend. Andros made the decision to miss what was scheduled to be the next round round of the season after a legal dispute between the Serre Chevalier site and the local government.

It was a mixed qualifying in Isola, with new faces in the Super Pole and the reigning champion missing out on a spot in the top six.

Berthon was fastest in the first of the two qualifying sessions, managing a 2m30.474s time to go ahead of Christophe Ferrier and Aurelien Panis.

It was a time that couldn’t be beat in the second qualifying session, which was headed by Panis.

Berthon’s pace continued into Super Pole, when he was out first but still managed to set the fastest lap of the session with a 51.752s lap.

Panis was second quickest, just 0.689s off Berthon’s best time.

Behind them, the order from the first two qualifying sessions was turned on its head. All four of the other Super Pole entrants left the session equal on qualifying points, and it was their performance in the earlier sessions that will determine their spot on the grid for the Super Final.

Ferrier slots into third ahead of Yann Ehrlacher and Olivier Pernaut, who was the third quickest driver in the Super Pole session.

The sixth driver to make it through to Super Pole was Sylvian Pussier. It was Pussier’s first appearance in the session after making the step up to Elite Pro at the start of the season. He was on for a solid lap when he span during his Super Pole outing. Despite being second quickest in the second qualifying session, he will line-up sixth on the grid.

Joining them in the Super Final will be Dorian Boccolacci, who made a mistake in qualifying one and was unable to finish, but placed seventh overall by the end of both sessions.

Notably absent from Super Pole was Jean-Baptiste Dubourg. Dubourg span on his run in the second qualifying session and didn’t complete the three laps. After only placing seventh in Q1, it was only enough for 10th overall.

He’ll line-up behind team-mate Nico Prost and SLR’s Louis Gervoson in the final.
