BMW’s Blomqvist completes Andretti line up

BMW factory driver Tom Blomqvist will partner Antonio Felix da Costa at Andretti Autosport for the 2017-18 season, the FIA has confirmed.

The signing comes after BMW announced last month they would be increasing their involvement with Andretti early. The manufacturer is Andretti’s technical partner this year and will make the step up to a works team in the 2018-19 season.

Blomqvist, who has raced with BMW in DTM since 2015, ran the Andretti ATEC-03 for two days during preseason testing. He shared duties with Alexander Sims, who had a development role within the team last year.

It’s not known if Blomqvist will continue in DTM alongside his Formula E duties. The 2018 DTM calendar is yet to be announced, and any clashes could allow Sims to make his FE race debut.

Blomqvist last raced a single seater in the 2014 European Formula 3 championship, where he finished second behind Esteban Ocon and ahead of Max Verstappen.

The team itself is yet to confirm the announcement.
