Mortara claims FIA GT World Cup win at Macau

Edoardo Mortara claimed the FIA GT World Cup win at Macau by beating Robin Frijns and Mercedes team-mate Maro Engel.

Venturi Formula E duo Mortara and Engel started first and eighth on the grid respectively following the qualifying race yesterday.

Mortara won the 18-lap race from pole position ahead of former Andretti Autosport Formula E driver Robin Frijns  by 0.6seconds.

Frijns, driving for Audi in Macau, finished second after starting from fourth place.

The Dutch driver had started a lowly 17th in Saturday’s qualifying race but was able to finish fourth by virtue of avoiding the 12-car pile-up on the opening lap.

He then started in fourth for the main race and was able to claim second spot.

Mahindra driver Felix Rosenqvist was withdrawn from the main event following the crash in the qualifying race

Reigning Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi was able to start the race in his Audi but retired after five laps.
