Just Electric

BMW i and Formula E extend their partnership

Ahead of the first race of Season 4, Formula E has announced today the extension of its partnership with BMW i, sealing a multi-year agreement.

BMW i has been involved with the fully-electric championship since the beginning of the series, providing the vehicles used as medical cars (BMW i3) and safety car (BMW i8). The German brand has announced that it will continue its partnership with the series.

Formula E fans are no strangers to these innovative and electric cars, as they not only participate in the sessions, but also do the famous hot laps before the race starts. With a multi-year agreement between both parties, the public will continue to see the incredible machines for the seasons to come.

The extension of the partnership was celebrated at an event held at the BMW Wan Chai showroom in Hong Kong, and Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag expressed: “It’s fantastic news that BMW i is extending its commitment as Official Vehicle Partner. Even when Formula E was just an idea and didn’t exist, we had BMW on board as a partner that believed in this project from the very beginning“.

It was almost a logical step for us to get involved in Formula E with BMW i in 2014 – and it’s just as logical to continue the partnership in the coming years. Formula E is breaking new ground in motorsport in many ways, just as BMW i does in terms of the mobility of the future, which is why the combination works really well“, commented Jorg Reimann, Vice President of BMW Brand Experience.

BMW will enter Formula E as a works team in Season 5, and has been involved directly with Andretti since last season. The marque’s works driver Antonio Felix da Costa will start in Hong Kong his second season with the American team.

It’s a legendary brand in the world of sports and in the car industry, and soon we’ll also have them in the pitlane trying to win. So, I can just say – welcome to the pitlane, and welcome again as a strong partner of Formula E, added Agag.
