Herta confirmed for rookie test with Andretti

Indy Lights race winner Colton Herta and 2012 DTM champion Bruno Spengler will make their Formula E debut in the Marrakesh rookie test with MS&AD Andretti.

Herta impressed in his maiden season in the IndyCar support series, where he competed for Andretti Steinbrenner Racing. The 17-year-old finished third, having taken two wins early in the season.

“I think Colton was very impressive in his rookie season of Indy Lights and he hasn’t even turned 18 yet,” said Andretti Formula E CEO Michael Andretti.

“We are very excited to see what he can do in a Formula E car.

“He is one of the future stars in open-wheel racing and can be a real asset at the rookie test in Marrakesh.”

“I can’t thank MS&AD Andretti Formula E enough for the opportunity,” Herta said. “It’s the best Christmas present I could’ve gotten.”

Herta and Spengler are the latest drivers to be announced for Formula E’s first rookie test, which will take place on the Sunday after the Marrakesh ePrix.

The test is for racers who do not yet have an e-licence and have never raced in the series.

Meanwhile, MS&AD Andretti have also confirmed Tom Blomqvist will make his race debut for the team. The FIA European Formula 3 2014 runner-up was announced by the FIA as a full-time driver for Andretti but Kamui Kobayashi raced for the team in Hong Kong.

Audi have already confirmed both drivers for the test, while Venturi announced Michael Benyahia earlier today.
