Lopez tops FP2 in Santiago

Jose Maria Lopez topped the second free practice session for Dragon Racing ahead of the Santiago E-Prix.

It was a relatively incident-free session compared to the opening free practice session, although a few drivers did explore the run-off areas.

Dragon Racing driver Lopez set a time of 1m08.194s to beat Envision Virgin Racing’s Robin Frijns by just over half-a-tenth of a second.

Audi powered cars finished 2-3-4 in the session with Frijns ahead of Audi works driver Lucas di Grassi and Virgin team-mate Sam Bird.

Pascal Wehrlein, making his second start of the season for Mahindra Racing, finished in fifth after setting a 1m08.442 – 0.248s off the pace set by Lopez.

Jaguar’s Mitch Evans was sixth ahead of Wehrlein’s Mahindra team-mate and championship leader Jerome d’Ambrosio.

Alexander Sims was eighth ahead of Nissan e.dams’ Oliver Rowland and BMW i Andretti Motorsport  team-mate Antonio Felix da Costa.

Daniel Abt was 11th ahead of Oliver Turvey and DS Techeetah duo Jean-Eric Vergne and Andre Lotterer. Sebastien Buemi, who crashed earlier in the opening practice session, was 15th – but he showed his pace early on and set the best third sector of everyone.

Felipe Massa was ahead of fellow Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet, HWA Racelab driver Stoffel Vandoorne was 18th.

Maximilian Guenther, Tom Dillmann, Gary Paffett and Edoardo Mortara rounded out the field.

Qualifying will take place at midday local time.
