Rowland sets the pace early on in Rome

Oliver Rowland set the pace early on with the fastest lap for Nissan e.dams in Free Practice One in Rome.

Jean-Eric Vergne was second fastest for DS Techeetah with Lucas di Grassi third for Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler despite going into the run-off area at Turn 13. Sam Bird was fourth in the Audi powered Envision Virgin despite briefly bringing out the yellow flags after a trip to the run-off area at Turn 5.

Sebastien Buemi was fifth in the second of the Nissan entries ahead of Daniel Abt in the other Audi despite traffic and Antonio Felix da Costa was seventh for BMW i Andretti Motorsport.

Robin Frijns had a number of lockups but was eighth fastest ahead of Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara and Pascal Wehrlein rounded out the top ten for Mahindra.

Mitch Evans was eleventh for Jaguar despite brushing the wall at the exit of Turn fifteen with Jose Maria Lopez twelfth fastest for Dragon Racing and Stoffel Vandoorne was thirteenth for HWA despite a lengthy damper change.

The other DS Techeetah entry of Andre Lotterer was fourteenth ahead of Felipe Massa for Venturi and Alex Sims in the second of the BMWs.

Tom Dillmann was the fastest of the NIO drivers in seventeenth, just ahead of his teammate Oliver Turvey with Garry Paffett nineteenth for HWA and the top twenty was rounded out by Maximillian Guenther, making a one-off return for Dragon Racing.

Alex Lynn was twenty-first in the other Jaguar entry with his only running in the car prior to the session coming on a filming day at Mallory Park and the field was rounded out by the Mahindra of Jerome d’Ambrosio.
