Volkswagen have set a new all-time Goodwood hillclimb record with its ID. R electric prototype, driven by Romain Dumas.
The car had already broken records at Pikes Peak and the Nurburgring and set a new electric record at the hillclimb last year.
Last year, Dumas was just 1.45s short of breaking the overall record, set 20 years ago by Nick Heidfeld in a McLaren Formula 1 car.
Dumas and VW returned this year with a new aero-package, developed for the Pikes Peak run last June.
With the updated car, he set a time of 41.18s on his second run of the day, beating Heidfeld’s time by 0.4s.
Though pleased with the achievement, Volkswagen said on Twitter it isn’t done with the record breaking just yet.
41.18 seconds! @RomainDumas broke the 20-year old record at the @fosgoodwood in the #IDR. But they are not done yet – stay tuned for more record attempts throughout the weekend. #challengeacceptID pic.twitter.com/OtlTFFj0Bm
