Guenther fastest with late flyer

BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Maximillian Guenther snatched the fastest lap in the first session of FIA Formula E pre-season testing with a 1m15.926s.

The BMW driver just edged out the DS Techeetah pairing of Antonio Felix da Costa and reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne with the Nissan e.dams duo of Oliver Rowland and Sebastien Buemi rounding out the top five.

Lucas di Grassi was sixth for Audi having set the same time as Buemi with a 1m16.297s as Pascal Wehrlein was seventh for Mahindra Racing ahead of the Dragon entry of Nico Mueller.

Mitch Evans set the ninth quickest time for Jaguar Racing and the top ten was rounded out by Edoardo Mortara for Venturi Racing.

Jerome d’Ambrosio was 11th in the other Mahindra ahead of Porsche’s Andre Lotterer and Robin Frijns in the first of the Envison Virgin Entries.

Alex Sims was 14th in the BMW ahead of series newcomer, Brendon Hartley and Sam Bird in the other Envision Virgin car.

Daniel Abt set the 17th quickest time for Audi ahead of Venturi’s Felipe Massa and series returnee, Neel Jani in the Porsche.

Stoffel Vandoorne rounded out the top 20 for Mercedes EQ Formula Eahead of FE debutant James Calado in the Jaguar, Ma Quing Hua in the NIO 333 and Nyck de Vries in the other Mercedes.

Oliver Turvey in the second NIO did not set a timed lap.

The only red flags in the session were caused by James Calado, who crashed at the first chicane, and Neel Jani who was showing as stopped on track.
