Frijns stays on top in Valencia

Envision Virgin Racing’s Robin Frijns topped the times day two of pre-season testing for FIA Formula E, where a dummy race was held to test out new sporting regulations.

Mercedes Benz EQ Formula E driver Stoffel Vandoorne ‘won’ the dummy race – which had three full course yellow/safety car periods in it. A total of seven kilo watt hours (kWh) was deducted from the usable energy of the drivers across the 45-minute simulation.

Maximillian Guenther remained in second for BMW i Andretti Motorsport ahead of team-mate, Alexander Sims. Nissan e.dams’ Oliver Rowland was fourth quickest.

Dragon Racing ended the day with Nico Mueller in fifth and Brendon Hartley in seventh, the pair being split by Antonio Felix da Costa in the DS Techeetah. Felix da Costa topped the times in the afternoon session.

James Calado was the first driver to improve on his lap time from this morning with the eighth quickest time of the session ahead of team-mate Mitch Evans with Lucas di Grassi rounding out the top ten for Audi.

Edoardo Mortara and Jean-Eric Vergne both improved their lap times to 11th and 12th for Venturi and DS Techeetah respectively ahead of Sam Bird, who crashed his Virgin entry at the chicane.

Sebastien Buemi was 14th for Nissan ahead of Audi’s Daniel Abt, Mahindra’s Pascal Wehrlein and Vandoorne.

Andre Lotter set the 18th quickest lap for Porsche with Mahindra’s Jerome d’Ambrosio and Felipe Massa rounding out the top 20 in the other Venturi.

Neel Jani was 21st in the second of the Porsche’s ahead of Mercedes’ Nyck de Vries and the NIO’s of Oliver Turvey and Ma Qing Hua rounded out the field.
