Da Costa Quickest in Practice as Vergne Crashes

DS Techeetah’s Antonio Felix Da Costa set the quickest time in the only practice session before qualifying for the second of the Formula E Diriyah E-Prix.

The DS Techeetah driver just edged out yesterday’s winner Sam Bird after a late flurry of 250kW laps.

His teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne had another tough session after he hit the wall at Turn 16 before limping the car back to the pits with broken left rear suspension.

Alexander Sims was third quickest for BMW i Andretti Motorsport ahead of Nissan e.dams’ Oliver Rowland and Pascal Wehrlein in the Mahindra Racing.

Bird’s teammate Robin Frijns was sixth ahead of the Audi Sport Abt pairing of Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi while Maximillian Guenther and Mitch Evans rounded out the top ten for BMW and Jaguar Racing.

Jerome d’Ambrosio was 11th in the Mahindra ahead of Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi and the Venturi Racing pairing of Edoardo Mortara and Felipe Massa.

Yesterday’s podium finishers Andre Lotterer and Stoffel Vandoorne were 15th and 16th for Porsche and Mercedes EQ FE respectively ahead of the Dragon Racing pairing of Nico Mueller and Brendon Hartley.

Nyck de Vries was 19th for Mercedes with the top 20 rounded out by Ma Qing Hua in the NIO333.

Oliver Turvey was 21st in the other NIO ahead of Neel Jani for Porsche.

James Calado, who had crashed the Jaguar partway through the session and damaged a driveshaft, was 23rd and Vergne rounded out the field.
