Wehrlein loses podium to time penalty

Pascal Wehrlein’s unlucky weekend in Puebla has continued as he has been given a 5-second time penalty for improper use of fanboost.

The German driver had finished second behind Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara but will now drop to fourth, with Oliver Rowland inheriting the final podium spot.

The stewards document, released after the race says that “Technical data shows that the driver activated the fanboost but due to the low remaining energy in the car, the maximum power of 240kW was not reached.

“The Technical data shows that the maximum energy of 100kj were not completely used”.

The decision concludes that “Due to this proof, the Stewards consider no overpower with the consequence of the penalty above”.

This follows on from his disqualification from the first race in Puebla for not declaiming his tyres in the technical passport for the car, a decision which Porsche are appealing.
