Formula E and FIA reveal the new Gen3 race car

Ahead of the Monaco E-Prix race weekend, Formula E and FIA have revealed the Gen3 car to be raced in in the upcoming seasons.

The car, described as the “fastest Formula E car” yet, was unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Club and it is the very first race car to be designed for street circuit racing.

Technology has been upgraded in the design of this car, from software to engineering aspects, providing a machine that can reach up to a top speed of over 322 kph, a 95% power efficiency, and a 40% of the energy used within a race is produced by regenerative braking.

It is also the very first formula car with both front and rear powertrains that will add up 250kW to the 350kW at the rear.

“The Gen3 disrupts and challenges the conventions of motorsport, setting the benchmark for performance, efficiency and sustainability without compromise”, commented Jamie Reigle, CEO of Formula E.

Alejandro Agag, the founder of the fully-electric championship, mentioned that “The Gen3 represents the ambitious third age of Formula E and the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. With every generation of race car we push the boundaries of possibility in EV technology further and the Gen3 is our most ambitious project to date”.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, expressed that “Both technologically and environmentally, Gen3 sets new standards in the sport. The FIA and Formula E development teams have done a superb job, and I thank them for their hard work on this project”.
