Stoffel Vandoorne set the pace for DS Penske in the opening practice session ahead of the first of two races in Berlin.
The Belgian driver set a 1m 05.803s at the end of the session to sneak ahead of Andretti’s Jake Dennis, and Maserati’s Maximillian Guenther.
Jean-Eric Vergne was fourth quickest in the other DS Penske ahead of Edoardo Mortara in the other Maserati.
Mortara lost a few minutes of track time after an off at Turn 4, which saw him damage the front wing after locking up the brakes.
Sam Bird and Mitch Evans were sixth and seventh respectively for Jaguar, with the top 10 being rounded out by Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa, Andretti’s Andre Lotterer, and Rene Rast in the McLaren.
Apart from Mortara’s incident, and Robin Frijns having a spin at Turn 9 late on in the session, it was a relatively quiet session.
