Jaguar hoping to use rookie test to develop car

Jaguar Racing will use this weekend’s rookie test to continue to develop the car, according to team principal James Barclay.

Formula E’s first ever rookie test will take place the day after the Marrakesh ePrix and will feature both young and more established drivers who have never competed in an ePrix.

Jaguar will field ex-Formula 1 driver Paul Di Resta in one of its Jaguar I-Type IIs and hopes to use his years of experience to better understand the car.

“For us it’s about continuing to learn, continuing to develop the car and it will be really useful from that point of view, with the likes of Paul and his experience,” Barclay told Just Electric ahead of the test.

The team will also run Formula V8 3.5 champion Pietro Fittipaldi alongside di Resta.

Barclay added that it will be good to see young drivers on display during the test, and is looking forward to seeing how Fittipaldi will do in the electric car.

“It’s always nice to see new talent and we’ve got two really good drivers with a huge amount of experience which will be really valuable to the team,” he said.

“Pietro’s a really promising young talent and I’m really excited to see how he gets on.”
