Mahindra’s Nick Heidfeld tops the times in the first free practice session in Berlin.
Heidfeld was the only driver to complete a 200kW lap in the opening session at the Tempelhof Airport, setting a 1m9.697s lap time with his final lap of the session.
The lap was 0.474s quicker than that of Sebastien Buemi, the fastest man at 180kW.
A long red flag disrupted the session when the returning Stephan Sarrazin ran into the wall at turn one. Sarrazin couldn’t get his car stopped as he locked up at the hairpin, but managed to slow down before putting the Andretti into the barrier.
He ended his first Formula E session of 2018 slowest of anyone and 1.6s off the time set by Buemi.
Jean-Eric Vergne had to wait until after the red flags were cleared to jump into the top 10. He was briefly fastest of anyone with a 1m10.350s, but dropped to third before the chequered flag.
Felix Rosenqvist, who had set the pace early in the session, finished fourth quickest before spinning on his final lap of the session. He managed to keep the Mahindra out of the barriers.
Oliver Turvey took P5 ahead of Alex Lynn and Lucas Di Grassi.
Mitch Evans, Nico Prost, and Daniel Abt completed the top 10.
