Formula E awarded certification on sustainability

Formula E has become the first motorsport championship in the world to be awarded the ISO 20121 certification.

The certification, created by The International Standards Organisation following the 2012 Olympics in London, focuses on sustainability in events.

The key targets of the management system are; becoming more socially responsible, creating a successful financial model to grow and reducing the environmental footprint of each event.

Following the third-party audit, Formula E joins the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the 2016 European Football Championships and the Roland Garros French Open tennis tournament in having been awarded the certification.

“I’m very proud of the hard work Formula E has put into receiving third-party ISO 20121 certification – the highest award in sustainable events,” said Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag.

“The achievement is a testament to our entire ecosystem working towards a common goal of continuously improving our sustainability credentials and working with our supply chain at events to inspire others to make a conscious effort in minimising the impact on the environment.

“I look forward to other sports and categories of racing taking inspiration from the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.”
