Just Electric

The Porsche 99X Electric is ready to go racing

The historical German marque will make its debut in Formula E this season, and with an already confirmed lineup, they have launched their car livery in special fashion joined by gamers.

Porsche is one of those names you always expect big things from in motor racing. Synonym to Le Mans successes, the German car brand is now completing the move to the fully-electric championship, after officially announcing it in early 2018.

Two Le Mans winners are part of their squad –and both with past in Porsche. Neel Jani, who won the world’s most famous endurance race back in 2016, was announced last December as part of the squad. He has driven in Formula E in the Season 4 opener in Hong Kong, racing for Dragon.

“It is great that Porsche is breaking new ground and involving the young, digital generation”, expressed Jani about the innovating car’s launch, which could be streamed through the digital platform Twitch.

Andre Lotterer, a multiple podium finisher in the series, is teaming up with the Swiss. Lotterer, who won Le Mans three times, took part in the 24-hour race back in 2017, but could not finish. He switches from Techeetah to Porsche ahead of this season.

The team announced days ago it will run as TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, with the car going by the name of Porsche 99X Electric. Fritz Enzinger, a well-known figure in racing and currently Vice President of Porsche Motorsport, expressed his enthusiasm ahead of the team’s debut in Formula E.

“Today is an important day. With the premiere of the Porsche 99X Electric, we are taking a big step towards the Porsche works entry in Formula E. I am really proud of our team, which has shown a high level of commitment to the Formula E project”.

The team will have its first race in November 22nd, when the fully-electric championship goes back to the Ad Diriyah streets.
