Guenther fastest on an eventful afternoon

BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Maximillian Guenther set the quickest time of an incident packed afternoon session in Valencia on the final day of pre-season testing.

Like Wednesday afternoon, there was a dummy ‘race’ on the Valencia-based Circuit Ricardo Tormo. This time, Nissan e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi ‘won’ the dummy race.

The BMW i Andretti Motorsport driver from Germany set a 1m15.190s to beat the time set by Pascal Wehrlein in the Mahindra Racing this morning.

Nico Mueller was third fastest in the Dragon Racing despite stopping on track during the session.

Antonio Felix da Costa was fourth for DS Techeetah ahead of Jaguar’s Mitch Evans, Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi, who won the test race earlier, and Alex Sims in the other BMW.

The top ten was rounded out by Jerome d’Ambrosio in the Mahindra, Jean-Eric Vergne in the other DS Techeetah and Felipe Massa in the Venturi Racing.

Sam Bird was 11th quickest for Envision Virgin ahead of the Audi pairing of Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi with Brendon Hartley 14th despite causing the first red flag of the session.

Edo Mortara was 15th and another driver who had issues when he stopped at the pit exit with Andre Lotterer 16th for Porsche and Stoffel Vandoorne 17th for Mercedes as he also caused a red flag.

Robin Frijns was 18th in the other Envision Virgin entry ahead of Oliver Rowland for Nissan and Jaguar’s James Calado rounded out the top 20.

Nyck de Vries set the 21st quickest lap of the day in the Mercedes ahead of Neel Jani in the Porsche and Oliver Turvey and Ma Qing Hua rounded out the field for NIO
