Granado takes pole for MotoE opener

Eroc Granado will start the opening race of the 2020 MotoE season from pole position after topping the times in qualifying in Jerez.

Granado was fastest in Saturday’s free practice session, meaning he was the last rider out of the pit lane in the one-lap shoot out qualifying session.

The Avintia Esponsorama Racing driver managed a 1m48.620s lap, slower than his Friday free practice times but enough to put him 0.191s ahead of Lukas Tulovic.

Placing third in the earlier free practice session, Niccolo Canepa was one of the last drivers to head out on track, and was putting in a strong time when he ran into the gravel at turn 11. The incident brought out the red flags with just Granado and Dominique Aegerter left to run.

The stoppage didn’t shake Aergerter, who put himself just 0.065s behind Tulovic and ahead of reigning champion Matteo Ferrari.

Alejandro Medina was the best placed Aspar driver in P5, finishing ahead of Xavier Simeon and Alex de Angelis.

Jordi Torres, Niki Tuuli, and Mattia Casadei completed the top 10.
