Huertgen to miss Ocean X-Prix with stomach bug, Kleinschmidt steps in

Claudia Hurtgen will miss this weekend’s Ocean X-Prix after contracting a stomach bug.

Hurtgen took part in Friday shakedown alongside Abt Cupra team-mate Mattias Ekstrom. Ekstrom set the fastest time of the session, but a difficult session for Hurtgen dropped the team to eighth overall.

Abt announced Hurtgen would sit out this weekend’s Ocean X-Prix, which will be the second round of the inaugural Extreme E championship.

Series reserve driver Jutta Kleinschmidt will jump in her place.

Kleinschmidt has plenty of experience racing in Dakar, having completed the Dakar rally on two and four wheels. In 2001 she made history as the first woman to win the rally outright, and the first German to win the car category.

Kleinschmidt is the second driver to be making her Extreme E debut this weekend, as Kevin Hansen replaces Jenson Button at JBXE.
