Torres victorious in the first race of the San Marino season finale

The Spaniard took the win in the first round of the season finale and now climbs to the lead of the championship standings.

Jordi Torres clinched victory in an action-packed race in San Marino, going from third place to regain the leading position in the last lap. He had started from pole position, but was quickly overtaken by Switzerland’s Dominique Aegerter. The Spaniard then dropped to P3, where he continued to battle in order to regain the lost positions.

With his win, Torres moved up to the top of the championship standings, with a total of 97 points.

Aegerter put on a strong performance as well, ultimately finishing in second place. The Swiss is now back in contention for taking the title tomorrow, currently sitting in second place 8 points behind Torres, who aims to repeat last year’s feat.

Eric Granado, who started the race as another strong competitor for the title, saw his chances for a win go away as he went out in the last corner, when he was running within the top three.

Something similar happened to Alessandro Zaccone, who had started the race as the championship leader but fell off his bike and could not finish. The series announced that the Italian rider was taken to the track’s medical facility for checkups after his hit.

Mattia Casadei, Matteo Ferrari, and Miquel Pons completed the top five.

Tomorrow is the last race of the season, where we will know whether Torres retains his championship reign or we will have another Moto E champion.
