Official Gen 3 manufacturers confirmed as Maserati joins grid

Seven manufacturers are confirmed for the start of Formula E’s Gen 3 era, which starts with the 2022-23 season.

A number of manufacturers had already confirmed their commitment to the series after Audi, BMW and Mercedes announced exits from the championship.

Among the seven confirmed manufacturers is Maserati, a brand making its return to single seater racing after more than 60 years.

We are delighted to confirm the commitment of seven of the world’s leading car manufacturers to the Gen 3 era of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, and we look forward to seeing them battle against each other,” said FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

As a proving ground for future mobility, Formula E has always been at the cutting edge of technology – as exemplified by the Gen 3 single-seater – and we are confident that the forthcoming era will mark an exciting chapter in the series’ electrifying story.”

As well as Maserati, six names already racing in Formula E will continue into the Gen 3 era. DS Automobiles, Jaguar, Mahindra Racing, NIO 333, Nissan and Porsche will all be present on the grid when the Gen 3 era begins next season.

We are excited to welcome many of the world’s most innovative and competitive automotive manufacturers into the Gen3 era of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship,” said Formula E CEO Jamie Reigle. “The Gen 3 race car will take Formula E’s iconic city centre racing to a new level, creating more intense action and drama on the track while delivering a lea forward in electric mobility off it.

The Gen 3 race car will set the standard for performance, efficiency and sustainability and serve as further tangible evidence of the innovative developments in electric vehicles achieved by manufacturers in the championship.”

Absent from the confirmed entry list is Penske, which has provided powertrains to Dragon Racing since Formula E’s Season 3.

A full list of teams will be released a later date.
