Nissan increases its ties with e.dams ahead of S5 debut

Ahead of their Season 5 entry, Nissan have announced they have purchased a stake in e.dams.

As Renault departed from the series, the Japanese manufacturer took over the entry, and will make its debut in Formula E’s fifth season.

E.dams, owned by Frenchman Jean Paul Driot, have enjoyed a wealth of success in the fully-electric championship, winning the Teams’ Championship three seasons in a row.

In addition to this, Sébastien Buemi won the Drivers’ Championship in Season 2, coming runner up in Seasons 1 and 3, and becoming one of the series’ most successful racers.

“For Nissan’s first Formula E experience, it makes sense to partner with e.dams, and be able to draw on the organization’s experience of winning races and championships”, expressed Nissan’s corporate vice president Roel de Vries.

Driot, a well-known figure in the Formula E paddock by now, also commented on this partnership. “With our new partner Nissan, we’re eagerly awaiting the new challenges ahead. We are very proud of our history in Formula E, and we’re looking forward to adding new pages to the series’ history books with a new partner and the new car”.

With the collective pre-season test taking place next month in Valencia, Nissan are yet to confirm their lineup ahead of both the test and the season.
