Extreme E reveals 2022 calendar plans

Extreme E has further solidified its 2022 season calendar after the end of the championship’s inaugural season.

The series first revealed a provisional calendar in September, but three of the five races included a range of possible race venues.

The dates from that original provisional calendar have remained the same, but race locations have significantly changed.

The 2022 season is set to get underway in Saudi Arabia in February. Saudi Arabia hosted the inaugural round of the championship at Al-’Ula last April, but the 2022 round will take place in Neom.

Sardinia will once again feature on the calendar, slotting into the early May slot, before a trip to either Scotland or Senegal in July.

This slot had originally been held by either Greenland or Iceland in the original provisional calendar, but the UK government recently announced it would invest a million pounds into bringing the electric off-roading championship to the Outer Hebrides next year.

Senegal hosted the Ocean X-Prix this year, but it’s not clear if this title could carry over to Scotland.

After the planned South American rounds were cancelled for 2021, the continent is set to host two rounds in 2022.

Antofagasta in Chile takes the September slot, before a trip to Punta del Este in Uruguay for the season finale.
