Vergne Quickest in Eventful FP2 in Rome

Jean-Eric Vergne set the pace in FP2 for DS Techeetah in an eventful second practice session in Rome.

Vergne set a 1:39.082 to go fastest late in the session, which had been stopped following Oliver Askew and Andre Lotterer hitting the inside wall at the Turn 12/13 chicane.

Both drivers had suspension damage although Askew was able to drive back to the pits.

There had also been multiple incidents at Turn 7, as Oliver Rowland and Nyck de Vries explored the escape road.

Pascal Wehrlein was second quickest for Porsche ahead of Jaguar’s Sam Bird, and Andretti’s Jake Dennis, who had also had a brush with a wall, at the exit of Turn 13.

De Vries was fifth for Mercedes ahead of Mitch Evans and Antonio Felix da Costa for Jaguar and DS Techeetah respectively.

Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara, Mercedes’ Stoffel Vandoorne, and Envision’s Robin Frijns rounded out the top ten, despite a spin for Frijns between Turn 10 and Turn 11.
