Bird Flies in Final Practice in New York City

Sam Bird flew to the top of the timesheets for Jaguar in the weekend’s final practice session on a damp but drying circuit in New York City.

The British driver set a 1m08.745s time to be just under a tenth of a second quicker than Envision’s Nick Cassidy, whose mechanics had stayed at the track until midnight to rebuild his car following the crash which red-flagged yesterdays E-Prix.

As the track was drying out during the session, the lap times improved and thus, the fastest time changed hands constantly, with Mitch Evans and Jake Dennis topping the session at one point among others.

Lucas di Grassi, another of the drivers involved in the accident, was third for Venturi ahead of DS Techeetah’s Antonio Felix da Costa and Dennis.

Evans was sixth in the other Jaguar, just ahead of Robin Frijns in the other Envision entry.

Andre Lotterer was eighth quickest for Porsche, with Nissan’s Oliver Rowland setting an identical lap time to the thousandth just a few minutes later.

The top-ten was rounded out by Pascal Wehrlein in the other Porsche.
