Sette Camra moves to NIO for 2022-23 season

Sergio Setta Camara will move to NIO 333 for the 2022-23 Formula E season.

Sette Camara moves from the Dragon squad, where he has raced since his entry into the all electric racing championship in 2020.

“I am very happy to join the NIO 333 family and I want to thank everyone in the team who believed in me for this opportunity,” Sette Camara said. “I have been very open about my wish to remain in the FIA Formula E World Championship, and I am super excited about the new Gen3 car.”

Sette Camra’s time in Formula E has been rocky so far. The Dragon Penske squad has struggled to find the same pace as its competitors in recent seasons. But the Brazilian driver has had some stand out moments.

He finished P12 on his debut in Berlin, only to be disqualified for energy over use. Sette Camara then scored his first Formula E points with a P4 in Diriyah the following season. Two more points finishes came, both in London with a P8 in 2021 and P9 in 2022. Throughout 2022, he has made it through to the qualifying duels four times.

NIO team principal Alex Hui described Sette Camara’s career so far as “impressive” and hopes he can help drive the Chinese squad further up the grid.

“We are delighted to be able to bring Sergio onboard,” he said. “He is a fantastic talent and we have been hugely impressed by his approach already. Securing his services completes another part of the NIO 333 Formula E team jigsaw of progressing further up the Formula E grid. We are heading towards Season 9 with a lot of motivation and some very positive momentum.”

NIO have yet to announce which of its 2022 drivers, if either, will join Sette Camara at the squad next season.

He begins testing the NIO 333 ER9 this week in Italy.
