Ticktum puts NIO on top in Diriyah FP2

NIO 333 driver Dan Ticktum tops the order in the second free practice session ahead of the Diriyah E-Prix.

Ticktum set the fastest first and final sector on his way to the top of the order and ended FP2 with a time of 1m10.099s.

Sebastien Buemi took second quickest with Mitch Evans completing the top three.

Andretti Formula E driver Jake Dennis set the pace early in the session, but lap times tumbled throughout as track conditions improved.

Buemi, Sergio Sette Camara, and Rene Rast all took turns at the top of the order as the lap times gradually improved.

After an earlier turn at the top, Ticktum once again went fastest late in the session with a time of 1m10.386s. He would improve a few laps later with his final time of 1m10.099s.

Buemi’s time, just 0.203s off Ticktum’s pace, was the closest anybody would get to the NIO driver.

Evans was third quickest ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne and team-mate Sam Bird. Pascal Wehrlein took sixth while a late flying lap for Sergio Sette Camara put him P7.

Rast, Dennis and Jake Hughes completed the top 10.

Elsewhere, a few drivers ran into trouble at Turn 16. Midway through the session Nico Mueller hit the wall, causing heavy damage to his left rear. He was able to limp back to the pits but wouldn’t get back out. He ended the session slowest of anyone, just behind new team-mate Kelvin van der Linde.

Later in the session, Lucas Di Grassi narrowly missed making contact with the wall at the same corner. Maximillian Guenther wasn’t quite as lucky. After setting the fastest second sector of anybody, Guenther grazed the wall with his front left, causing minor damage at the end of the session.
