Gunther takes pole; championship leader Cassidy misses out on duels

Group Stages

Teammates Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne managed to put both DS Penske cars into duels. Jake Dennis and Robin Frijns pushed through the pack and made it into the duels as well, however, championship leader Nick Cassidy missed out on getting a place in duels at the very last second after going +0.260s slower.

In Group BLike Vandoorne and Vergne, Maserati drivers Maximilian Gunther and Edoardo Mortara put both the team’s cars into duels. Pascal Wehrlein and Rene Rast made it into duels as well.

Duels

Teammates Vergne and Vandoorne went head-to-head in duels with Vergne emerging on top. Dennis triumphed over Frijns in their duel while Wehrlein won his duel against Rast. Gunther finished ahead of his teammate Mortara in their duel, earning him a place in the semifinals.

The semifinals saw Vergne and Dennis go head-to-head while Wehrlein and Gunther battled for a spot in finals. Dennis and Gunther finished on top and were set to face each other in the finals.

Dennis and Gunther both gave it their all in the finals but Gunther was able to go faster and earn himself pole position.
