Simon Evans tops inaugural eTrophy practice session

Simon Evans made history in Ad Diriyah by topping the first ever Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy practice session ahead of the series’ inaugural race tomorrow.

The Kiwi driver, brother of Jaguar Formula E racer Mitch, set a time of 1:32.618 in his APAC machine to finish just 0.011 seconds ahead of Brian Sellers (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing), with Sergio Jimenez (Jaguar Brazil Racing) a further 0.076 behind. The top three drivers in the session were therefore separated by less than a tenth of a second.

Rounding out the top five were Jimenez’ team-mate Caca Bueno in fourth and TWR Techeetah’s Stefan Rzadzinski in fifth, while the first of the local Saudi entrants was just outside the top five as Bandar Alesayi’s lap was good enough for sixth.

British racer Alice Powell set the seventh-quickest time ahead of the second Saudi entry of Ahmed Bin-Khanen, while Katherine Legge (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing) and Celia Martin (Team Germany) rounded out the top ten.

Bringing up the rear were the Jaguar China Racing duo of Tao Wang and Yaqi Zhang.

Qualifying takes place at 7:55am local time tomorrow, with the race at 12:50 local time between the Formula E qualifying and race.
