De la Rosa joins Techeetah as sporting and technical advisor

Former Formula 1 driver Pedro de la Rosa has joined Techeetah Formula E team as sporting and technical advisor.

De la Rosa, who ran as a test driver with Team Aguri before the start of season two, will be working with Techeetah as the team aims to build on the success its already enjoyed this season.

“The team has had a great start of the season and are currently leading both the teams’ and drievrs’ championships,” he said.

“Nevertheless, there are a number of areas to improve and, as a team, we never under estimate the opposition or the challenges that lie ahead.

“I’m looking forward to applying my experience and technical expertise at Techeetah and to help give the team a competitive edge in the championship.

“I’ll be working with the team and drivers starting from the Rome ePrix and, together, we will build upon what the team has already achieved to secure further successes,”

De la Rosa spent seven seasons competing in F1, taking a best finish of second in the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix. He also ran as a test driver for Ferrari, Mercedes, and Prost Grand Prix.

Techeetah managing director Ivan Yim is confident de la Rosa will play a key part as the team works to develop both on and off track.

“We are very pleased to welcome Pedro on board,” he said. “He brings a wealth of applicable experience and his appointment represents another step forward to strategically capitalise on our championship position.

“As we continue to build our team and our positive progress, we are leaving no stones unturned to ensure that the team gets the best possible chance of succeeding and Pedro will play a key part in this.

“We’ve made some big strides lately and we are in a very exciting position, not just on track but also off the track. We will have some further commercial news to share in due course.”

Techeetah heads into the Rome ePrix with a 27 points lead over nearest rival Mahindra in the teams’ competition, while drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Andre Lotterer are first and 12th in the drivers’ championship.
