BMW announce Wittmann and Spengler as Marrakesh Test entries

BMW have announced their drivers for this month’s Marrakesh Test. With Bruno Spengler back in a Formula E car and Marco Wittmann debuting in the fully-electric championship, the German marque’s lineup is a skilled and talented one.

Marco Wittmann will have his first run on a Formula E car. “Up to now, I have only followed Formula E from afar. I am fascinated to see how it feels to drive a car like the BMW iFE.18”, he commented.

He won his first DTM championship back in 2014, and was given a run on a Toro Rosso Formula 1 car the following year at the Austrian Grand Prix, home country of Red Bull, brand that sponsored Wittmann in DTM. In 2016, he won the title as well, and now, it’s his time to jump behind the wheel of a Formula E car.

“I am very much looking forward to it and am excited to see how much I enjoy it. My heart beats for the DTM, but I think it is important to keep broadening your horizon. Fortunately, BMW Motorsport has a very diverse programme, which allows us to gain experience in many different cars”, added the BMW factory driver.

Bruno Spengler, who took part in last year’s Marrakesh Rookie test, will be back at the wheel of a Formula E car.

The Canadian tested the BMW iFE.18 last year, and spoke with Just Electric about his experience behind the wheel of a Gen2 car

Now, both BMW factory drivers will have a taste of Formula E on Moroccan soil, as the fully-electric championship goes back to the Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan for the third time in a row.
