Virgin Racing announce Treluyer and de Vries for Marrakesh test

Benoit Treluyer and Nyck de Vries will drive for Envision Virgin Racing in the Formula E rookie test after the Marrakesh E-Prix.

Treluyer will get his first taste of Formula E action in the rookie test but boasts a CV that features three 24 Hours of Le Mans wins as well as Super GT, Formula Nippon and World Endurance Championship exploits.

The Frenchman won championships in all three series.

“It’s great to be given such an opportunity and I’m very much looking forward to be working with the Virgin Racing team,” said Treluyer.

“I know the team has a lot planned for the test so I’m eager to get my head down and ensure they come away with the best possible data to aid them for the remainder of the Formula E season.”

De Vries will be returning to the Formula E paddock after testing for the Audi works team at the same test in 2018.

The Formula 2 race winner also tested for Audi in DTM in September 2018. Although a McLaren junior driver, he has been overlooked for an F1 race seat in favour of Lando Norris.

“Formula E is a really promising series right now so being able to drive the team’s Gen2 car is a great way to kick off the New Year,” said de Vries.

“I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel and working through the team’s testing programme and providing them with the best possible feedback I can.”

With Virgin Racing being an Audi customer team, both drivers will sample the Audi e-tron FE05 around the Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan.

The Marrakesh E-Prix takes place on January 12, with the rookie test the following day.
