Sellers snatches last-ditch pole from Bueno

Rahal Letterman Lanigan’s Bryan Sellers claimed pole position for the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy from Caca Bueno after a last-lap improvement on a drying track in Paris.

Rain overnight in the French capital left the track wet for the I-Pace eTrophy qualifying although the track did begin to dry throughout the 30-minute session.

Jaguar Brazil Racing’s Bueno was fastest throughout the session and consistently improved across all three sectors of the 1.92km circuit, while other drivers could only find time in the first two sectors.

This changed on Sellers’ last lap when he went fastest to take pole position by a tenth of a second after he posted a 1m16.318s.

Bueno will start third ahead of TWR Techeetah’s Stefan Rzadzinski, who hit the barrier at Turn 2 earlier on in the session with the rear left of his car – although there did not appear to be any damage.

Bueno’s Jaguar Brazil Racing team-mate, Sergio Jimenez, was fourth with polesitter Sellers’ team-mate Katherine Legge in fifth.

Team Asia New Zealand’s Simon Evans will start sixth after he qualified almost seven tenths down on Sellers.

Bandar Alesayi claimed Pro-Am pole position for Saudi Racing ahead of his team-mate Ahmed Bin-Khanen.

Archie Hamilton, grandson of 1953 Le Mans winner Duncan Hamilton, qualified ninth although he had been mixing with the top five in the earlier stages of the session.

Celia Martin (Viessmann Jaguar eTrophy Team Germany) qualified 10^th with Jaguar China Racing pair Yaqi Zhang and Ziyi Z. Zhang qualifying 11^th and 12^th.

The race gets underway at 2pm local time.
