Nissan e.dams Retain Buemi and Rowland for Season 6

Nissan e.dams have revealed that they will retain the driver pairing of Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland for the 2019/20 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.

Having claimed six pole positions in their maiden campaign, Nissan will look to build upon their potential and mount a stronger title challenge.

Sebastien Buemi had a strong end to Season 5, with a spell of podium finishes resulting in Nissan’s first Formula E win in New York.

This allowed the Swiss driver to make a late charge in the Drivers’ Championship, but fell short of Jean-Eric Vergne.

“We had good pace in season five, and I hope to build on that momentum,” Buemi said after the announcement.

“There are some new manufacturers joining in season six, but we have much more experience now as a team, and that’s going to make us more competitive.”

Following a late move to join Nissan, Oliver Rowland produced an impressive debut season in Formula E, topping several sessions and claiming the Japanese manufacturer’s first podium in Sanya.

With his immediate future now confirmed, Rowland centre his full focus on Season 6.

“I had a great first season [with Nissan], but now it’s time to prepare properly for my second year and come back even stronger,” Rowland said.

“I came into season five with very little experience, but I think I adapted quite well. I felt very comfortable with the team, and I had a lot of support from everyone.”

Nissan’s global motorsport director Michael Carcamo also explained why retaining both drivers was such an easy decision:

“Sebastien’s run to second place in season five and his attitude as a team player, made him an easy choice for our season six lineup. Oliver proved to be a very fast learner, and we quickly got used to seeing his name at the top of the time sheets.”

“There’s no doubt we have an outstanding driver combination.”

Nissan e.dams will join the rest of the Formula E teams at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo Circuit for the Official Pre-Season Tests next month, ahead of the season opener in Ad Diriyah on November 22.
