Bird flies to the top after FP2 in Mexico City

Sam Bird was quickest for Envision Virgin Racing at the end of the second practice session in Mexico City.

Following the usual deluge of full power laps at the end of the session, the Brit had lowered the benchmark to 1:07.672.

Antonio Felix Da Costa was second for DS Techeetah ahead of Jaguar’s Mitch Evans, Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi and Mercedes’ Stoffel Vandoorne rounded out the top-five.

Robin Frijns was sixth in the other Envision Virgin entry with Andre Lotterer seventh quickest for Porsche and the top 10 was rounded out by Pascal Wehrlein, Lucas di Grassi and Jean-Eric Vergne for Mahindra, Audi and DS Techeetah respectively.

Jerome d’Ambrosio was 11th in the other Mahindra ahead of Porsche’s Neel Jani, Venturi’s Felipe Massa, Dragon’s Nico Mueller and Nyck de Vries for Mercedes.

Maximillian Guenther was 16th for BMW despite just kissing the barrier at Turn 8 and he was ahead of Jaguar’s James Calado, Alex Sims in the other BMW, Dragon’s Brendon Hartley the to p20 was rounded out by Oliver Rowland in the Nissan.

The field was rounded out by Edoardo Mortara for Venturi and the NIOs of Ma Qinghua and Oliver Turvey, the latter having not completed a full power lap.

Daniel Abt didn’t take part in the session owing to his accident this morning and he had been taken to hospital for a precautionary check-up.
