De Vries sets the pace in penultimate practice

Nyck de Vries tops the penultimate free practice session of the season with a 1m06.688s lap in Berlin.

Oliver Rowland spent most of the session top of the order, but as full power laps came in he dropped down the timings.

Rowland set the pace after the first laps, and gradually lowered the benchmark to 1m07.143s by the closing stages of the session. It was a time that remained competitive even as Attack Mode power levels were beginning to be used, with Vandoorne’s 225kW power lap only a tenth of a second quicker.

But times dropped drastically as drivers hit full power. De Vries went quickest on his qualifying simulation, with Antonio Felix Da Costa P2 and 0.125s behind. Da Costa had also been second quickest at 200kW.

Rowland put himself third with a time 0.166s off the pace, ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne and Jake Dennis.

Race one winner Lucas Di Grassi slotted into sixth with his final lap of the session ahead of Evans and Vandoorne, who didn’t do a full power lap.

Alexander Sims and Pascal Wehrlein completed the top 10.
