X44 drivers Sebastien Loeb and Cristina Gutierrez continued their domination on Saturday in Sardinia, racking up the maximum 18 points available from two qualifying sessions by going fastest in both.
Gutierrez and Loeb had topped the first session earlier on Saturday and that performance continued into the second session with the duo combining to post a 10m45.401s. Each qualifying session awarded nine points to the winner, meaning X44 claimed 18 points ahead of racing.
Sara Price and Kyle LeDuc responded from a challenging morning and not being able to set a time in Q1 to post the second-best time in Q2 which secured them a place in semi-final 2 after claiming nine points across both sessions for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Rosberg X Racing duo Johan Kristofferson and Molly Taylor were third after a dramatic session, with the Swedish driver finishing his run despite a front-right puncture. In fourth in Q2 were Andretti United Extreme E’s Catie Munnings and Timmy Hansen, ahead of Abt Cupra’s Jutta Kleinschmidt and Mattias Ekstrom; the latter having a spin during his run.
JBXE’s Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky and Kevin Hansen claimed sixth in Q2 with Hansen showing his potential with the fastest final split time, denying Loeb a clean sweep of sector times, with seventh place taken by Xite Energy Racing’s team of Christine GZ and Oliver Bennett. Sainz XE Team’s Q2 was a dramatic affair with a spin for Laia Sanz before Carlos Sainz had to bring the car home on his run to claim eighth. Veloce Racing did not set a time in Q2 after Stephane Sarrazin suffered from a broken front right steering arm.
The combined results from the two qualifying sessions mean X44, Rosberg X Racing and Abt Cupra will compete in Sunday’s semi-final one, with Sainz ZE Team, Chip Ganassi Racing and Andretti United taking part in the second semi-final. JBXE, Veloce and Xite Racing will have to take part in the crazy race.
