Rosberg X Racing and X44 win the Semi Finals for the Copper X-Prix.
It was a dominant performance from both teams in their respective Semi Finals.
In Semi Final 1, Laia Sanz in the Acciona Sainz car got the lead off the line, with Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky driving the RXR machine close behind. A puddle splash for the Andretti car left Catie Munnings unable to see for a moment, dropping her off the back of the pair.
A slow stop for the Sainz squad allowed Johan Kristofferson to get the jump in the Switch Zone. For his two laps, Kristofferson extended the gap to Sainz, who was under pressure from Timmy Hansen in the Andretti.
As Kristofferson took the chequered flag, Sainz and Hansen were racing side by side. Sainz just managed to keep his nose ahead, finishing just 0.3s ahead of Hansen.
X44 had a simpler race. Although Sara Price in the Chip Ganassi Racing car got the best start, Christina Gutierrez managed to get ahead, leaving Price to battle with series debutant Klara Anderson. Anderson managed to get ahead of Price before the switch zone.
After the switch zone, Kyle LeDuc tried to keep pace with Nasser Al-Attiyah, but would finish the race three seconds back. The result ended CGR’s championship hopes.
It was a penalty hit Crazy Race with three of the four cars all receiving penalties.
Through the first half of the race it was a battle between McLaren and JBXE for the lead. Kevin Hansen in the JBXE managed to get ahead going into the switch zone, but the battle only continued once Hedda Hosas took over. With Tanner Foust behind the wheel of the McLaren, the pair were side by side as they went over the jump. They made contact on landing sending both spinning out.
McLaren retained the race lead with the Xite driven by Timo Scheider close behind. However, both Hosas and Foust missed the weigh point after spinning, Xite had also earned a penalty for knocking down a flag.
This meant McLaren won the race and progress through to the Final.
