Andrea PerilliAcciona Sainz were fastest in the opening qualifying session in Punta del Este, but finished the session under investigation for missing their qualifying spot .
The duo of Laia Sanz and Carlos Sainz were able to tame a challenging surface that had many cars rolling throughout the session.
In second position came Veloce Racing, just a 0.563 second gap away from the leaders, and they were closely followed by the Chip Ganassi Racing squad in third.
Championship chances are likely to be over for Team X44, as the car rolled during Cristina Gutierrez’s stint causing the team to drop to the penultimate spot in the qualifying standings.
A similar fate happened to leading team Rosberg X Racing, as Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky rolled during her time at the wheel.
The track proved challenging for the drivers, as there was a third roll. JBXE’s Hedda Hossas lost control of the vehicle and rolled in the grass and muddy surface of the circuit.
