SAP joins Mercedes as official business partner

Mercedes Formula E team will receive support from technology giant SAP when the manufacturer joins the FE grid in 2019.

SAP has experience in a wide range of sports and will now assist Mercedes as the team’s official business partner, providing “back-office solutions” and “new innovations for the racing team based on SAP technology”.

“We are delighted to announce SAP as the first principal partner of our new Mercedes EQ Formula E team,” said head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, Toto Wolf.

“Although we are still 18 months away from our first race, this new agreement demonstrates the commercial potential of the series and gives us a strong basis from which to begin our next phase of technical and sporting preperations for the season six entry.

“This agreement will combine traditional brand value with the use of innovative technologies that will contribute meaningfully to our on-track performance.”

It’s understood Mercedes and SAP engineers will use the company’s technology, such as the SAP Cloud Platform and SAP Leonardo technologies, to help develop its FE car.

“We look forward to integrating SAP technology innovations in the new Mercedes EQ Formula E car,” said Bernd Leukert, member of the executive board of SAP SE. “Mercedes-Benz and SAP both aim to create a more sustainable future for our customers, partners, and society with the help of new digital technologies.”

Mercedes will join the FE grid for the 2019-2020 season alongside 10 other manufacturers.
