Andrea PerilliFormula E’s fifth season will see eleven teams lined up in the grid. HWA Racelab join the fully-electric championship with DTM star Gary Paffett as one of their drivers.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Mercedes customer team HWA would join the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, using the VFE-05, supplied by Venturi.
There was much speculation about who the drivers the German squad would lineup would be. Considering HWA’s ties with DTM, it was expected that one of the drivers taking part in the German Touring Car Championship would make an appearance in Formula E.
Finally, with two months go until red lights go out in Saudi Arabia at the season opener, HWA have confirmed Gary Paffett as one of their racers in S5.
Paffett, who had previously taken part in the Marrakesh Rookie Test in January, will now make his Formula E debut. He currently races in DTM with Mercedes, and has been involved in the championship since 2003, making him one of the most experienced drivers, having won the title in 2005.
As e-Formel.de reported, the team’s other driver will be announced after the DTM finale at the Hockenheimring this month.
